Why Early Childhood Matters: The 0–3 Years Window
The earliest years of a child’s life, from birth to age three, are a critical window for brain development, learning, and growth. During this stage, children need nurturing care, play, and stimulation to build the foundation for lifelong skills. Yet caregivers, especially in home-based Early Childhood Development (ECD) centres, often lack structured, practical tools to support early learning in ways that are both engaging and culturally relevant.

Bridging the Gap with Childcare Activity Sheets
To bridge this gap, Literacy and Adult Basic Education (LABE) has partnered with Tiny Totos (TT) to develop childcare activity sheets designed specifically for children aged 0–3 years. These sheets provide caregivers with simple, play-based activities that can be easily integrated into daily routines, promoting early stimulation, bonding, and holistic development.

Hands-On Pretesting in Gulu and Koboko
Between 4th and 8th August 2025, TT and LABE conducted a hands-on pretest of the activity sheets in six Home Learning Centres (HLCs) across Gulu and Koboko districts:
Koboko District: Mangulu, Nyeite, and Miruta HLCs
Gulu District: Otege, Lagotlibi, and Bobayo HLCs
Caregiver-Led Learning in Action
During the sessions, caregivers engaged children through storytelling, play, and the use of locally made resources, guided by the activity sheets. LABE and TT staff observed, collected feedback, and held Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) with caregivers to refine the materials further. This collaborative process ensures that the sheets are not only practical but also culturally appropriate and responsive to community needs.
Capturing the Energy: A Visual Story
We have captured the energy, creativity, and commitment from these sessions in a photo gallery. Explore the images to see caregivers in action, children engaged in playful learning, and the moments that reflect our collective effort to strengthen early childhood development.
