What we do

By working together with communities, we strive to build a stronger, more educated society.

We innovate

Our education interventions are premised on the FABE approach. Learners at different age groups from 0 to 18 and above have customized basic education and care provisions through various interventions of Home-Based ECD, Bilingual Home-Schooling, Financial Adult Nume-literacies that take place in Home Learning Centres.

We train and develop capacity

of literacy and basic education providers to strengthen literacy practices in families, schools and communities

We advocate for and create awareness

about the existing education policies and community rights and responsibilities to participate in education and development.

We support implementation

of key policies in basic education: local language policy, ECD policy, Gender in Education sector policy

Our Work

How we do it

We believe in fostering a dynamic learning environment that extends beyond the classroom walls. We achieve this through FABE, a whole family intergenerational learning approach. This approach brings together:

Through FABE

A whole family intergenerational learning approach that brings together Early Childhood development, Primary School and Adult Education. Its goal is to develop dynamic intergenerational aspects of learning in families to enable regular engagement of parents and all children in enriched social, emotional, physical and cognitive development activities. Through FABE, we build a family’s readiness to learn and interest in developing knowledge and skills to transform the lives of individual family members, the family as a whole and the wider community

Work with and through Partnerships

We believe lasting change happens when communities, institutions, government, and development partners work together. LABE collaborates with families, schools, local governments, civil society organisations, media, and national stakeholders to co-create and scale innovative literacy and early learning solutions. Through these partnerships, we strengthen systems, influence policy, and expand access to inclusive, community-driven education opportunities for children, caregivers, and lifelong learners.

Self help for sustainability

LABE promotes self-help approaches that empower communities to take ownership of their learning and development. By building on local strengths, encouraging collective action, and supporting initiatives such as savings groups, community-led learning spaces, and locally made teaching materials, we help communities create solutions that are practical, resilient, and sustainable beyond project support.

The Home Learning Centers

We learnt that learning can take place anywhere and is not limited by space and time. So, we facilitate the provision of low-cost, affordable, culturally-appropriate and empowering education to marginalized families and communities through Home Learning Centres. They are located within a homestead and cater for both children and adult learning needs.

Asset-based community driven development

We nurture community growth from the inside out using the Asset-Based Community-Driven development (Self-Help) approach. We focus on the half-full glass and teach the community to fish rather than give them the fish to foster community participation and agency in education.

Our Work

What makes us different

We believe in the power of communities to drive their own development. Our unique approach leverages the strengths and resources within communities to create sustainable change. By focusing on asset-based community-driven development and self-help strategies, we empower individuals and families to take ownership of their education and future.
